We asked Liz some questions about sharks...
What fuels your passion for working with sharks?
I feel very fortunate to be able to work with these animals. They are pure instinct and survival. They are the masters of their world and have adapted to a huge range of environmental diversity. When my 5 month old niece, Liza, is old enough I want to be able to take her Freediving with an apex predator that keeps the stability of our oceans in check.
What has been the most difficult thing that you've had to overcome in your field?
Trying to change the perception that people have in their heads about sharks, and getting them to look at these animals with a beginners mind.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about sharks?
That they do not hunt out humans to kill them!
What is your favorite species of shark?
In your opinion, what is the biggest threat to sharks?
There are a couple things that stand out to me 1. Uneducated Humans, 2. The use of shark through the fishing and commercial use.
What advice would you give to people who want to help save our sharks?
Being the voice for an animal that does not have one comes with a huge responsibility. People will constantly be negative about what you are doing and sometimes it gets so frustrating, but it important to follow your passion and remember to be the change you want to see in the world!
